I produced the audio version of the Straight-A Guide because of what’s coming next inside the Bureau of Prisons.
Through my ongoing work with the agency, I receive advance insight into developments that affect people in federal prison. One of the most encouraging changes on the horizon is the introduction of a new tablet system.
As of today, people in federal prison can purchase tablets primarily designed for entertainment. These devices are produced by private companies that, in my view, profit by overcharging people who can least afford it.
The new tablets will be different.
They will not cost people in prison anything. They will be iPad-like devices, and they will come preloaded with free educational content. That shift aligns directly with our mission at Prison Professors.
Access to information changes outcomes.
Knowing that these tablets are coming, we’ve made a deliberate decision to invest thousands of dollars into building more high-quality educational resources. Everything we produce is offered at no charge to people in prison and at no charge to the agency.
This work is personal to me. It’s a ministry.
I want as many people in prison as possible to access the same tools that helped me navigate the journey—tools that taught me how to think differently, plan strategically, and prepare for success long before release was possible. People who are going through any phase of the criminal justice system should get free access to resources that will help them:
Prepare if going through a government investigation,
Learn more about the implications of deciding to plead guilty or proceed through trial.
Understand how to prepare for a Presentence Investigation that will lead to the PSR.
Get a good understanding of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Develop a mitigation strategy that will assist them at federal sentencing.
Create strategies to have a productive journey through federal prison.
Build a portfolio of assets they can use to advance their candidacy for the highest level of liberty, at the soonest time.
Prison Professors offers all that information, free of charge, and we want people to use it so they can position themselves as candidates for better outcomes.
For more than a decade, we’ve produced softcover books. We’ve built video courses. More recently, I invested time to develop the skills necessary to produce our content in audio format and publish it professionally on Audible.
Audio books will help people who learn best by listening. They can listen and learn while driving, exercising, or while lying down with their eyes closed.
We want to offer our books and courses in every format to ensure that anyone can prepare, at any time, without limitations.
The audiobook version of The Straight-A Guide is the first of many. You’ll see more Prison Professors titles released in audio format in the months ahead, all designed to meet people where they are and give them practical tools to prepare for the future.
For people who want to prepare for the best outcome through the criminal justice system, we want to make sure that:
We never restrict access to information that can help them prepare.
We never require payment from people who want to educate themselves on best practices.
We should work to build incentives that will help people earn higher levels of liberty through merit.
We’re grateful to everyone who supports this mission and helps us continue building resources that expand access, dignity, and hope.
