Many people allow their current circumstances to define their future. They believe that because they are in prison, their options are limited forever. This is a self-imposed limitation.
History shows us countless examples of people who faced worse circumstances and still achieved remarkable success. From Frederick Douglass escaping slavery to Nelson Mandela emerging from 27 years of imprisonment to lead a nation—human potential is not determined by current circumstances.
Aspiration begins with vision. You must see in your mind's eye the person you want to become. This vision pulls you forward, especially during difficult times.
Consider these questions:
Aspiration is different from fantasy. Fantasy is wishful thinking without action. Aspiration is a vision coupled with commitment and daily work.
True aspiration includes:
High aspiration requires high responsibility. The bigger your goals, the more accountable you must be. You cannot aspire to lead others if you cannot lead yourself. You cannot aspire to freedom if you cannot demonstrate self-discipline.
Every day, ask yourself: Are my actions today aligned with my aspirations? If not, make adjustments. Your daily choices either move you toward your vision or away from it.
