Daily Schedules

To help more people understand the importance of daily accountability, I asked Steve, our IT engineer, to begin building out the “Faculty” page for our website. One feature will include an opportunity for people to make daily updates, showing the steps they’re taking to prepare for higher levels of success at different stages.

The enhanced version will allow anyone who is a faculty member to write an update, and the update will get pushed out live every hour. Let’s test this with my morning update for today. Earlier, I wrote to administrators at two federal prisons to coordinate visits for mid February, and now, at 6:07 am I am going outside to run. I’ll update later with hopes that we’ve got a live journal.

8:35 am Update

I am so pleased to see that Steve succeeded in writing the code that makes this first version live. I finished my run. When I returned to my desk, I saw that the update I published before the run was already live.

Building this tool will require many man hours. It offers further proof that I never ask anyone to do anything that I’m not doing. By showing my work, I’m able to continue bringing value to our org. Simultaneously, I’m able to teach others how they can use time today to sow seeds for the success they want to build in the months, years, and decades ahead.

When we’ve fully built out the faculty page, we’ll be able to bring people into our community. They can begin building their own curriculum. They will become a bigger part of our mission to help people in prison prepare for better outcomes. The data we collect will assist our advocacy to bring more mechanisms that will allow people to earn higher levels of liberty through merit. The big visions include:

  • Reinstatement of some form of parole.
  • Development of a work-release type program for people in federal prison.
  • Building pathways to community confinement.
  • Defining what it means to be extraordinary and compelling, and creating more incentives that reward the pursuit of excellence.

Shifting focus now to more development projects, including more work on data presentation to highlight our collaboration with the Edovo Foundation.

6:02 pm Update

I had a busy afternoon. An Associate Warden from a federal prison reached out. I’d spoken in his prison a few weeks ago. Any time I speak in a prison, I invite those who attend to participate in our programs. The Associate Warden asked how many people were working through the courses.

I showed our leaderboard for the federal prisons in Lompoc. They show that the following:

  • Lompoc 1: We have 55 participants, and together, they’ve accumulated 436 points.
  • Lompoc 2: We have 47 participants, and together, they’ve accumulated 395 points.
  • Lompoc Camp: 6 participants, and together they’ve accumulated 64 points.

To assist other staff members in the Bureau of Prisons, I filmed a brief video for our YouTube channel:

Also, our IT director showed me his updates to our dashboard, to include results from our collaboration with the Edovo Foundation. You can see how we’re displaying the results on this page:
