Service and Purpose

Roman Resurreccion became part of the Prison Professors community through Tulio Cardozo while we were developing our technology platform. From the outset, Roman distinguished himself through his technical skill, reliability, and willingness to contribute behind the scenes.

After Roman completed his prison term, authorities deported him to the Philippine Islands. Despite the geographic distance and the challenges of rebuilding life after incarceration and deportation, Roman did not disengage. Instead, he continued contributing by building and maintaining a technology support system that allowed him to remain actively involved in the growth of our platform.

Roman has assisted us consistently as we expanded Prison Professors’ digital infrastructure. His work supports the stability, functionality, and scalability of systems that thousands of people rely on to document their preparation and access free resources. He exemplifies how contribution is not limited by location, circumstance, or past adversity.

I invited Roman to become a member of our faculty because his story reflects an essential principle of Prison Professors: preparation and service do not end with release or even with displacement. Through discipline, skill-building, and commitment, a person can continue contributing meaningfully and building value long after formal custody ends.

Foundational Contribution

Roman’s foundational contribution to Prison Professors is reflected in the role he plays at the very front of our system.

For thousands of people who build profiles on the Prison Professors platform, Roman is their first point of contact. He helps ensure that individuals who are ready to begin documenting their preparation receive the resources they need to get started. That work includes coordinating the distribution of books that guide people on how to use time in prison productively and intentionally.

Through this process, Roman helps translate interest into action. The books he sends are not symbolic gestures. They are practical tools that prompt people to begin writing, reflecting, and documenting the steps they are taking to prepare for success upon release. For many participants, this is the moment when preparation becomes tangible.

Roman’s contribution strengthens the integrity of the entire system. By supporting people at the entry point, he helps ensure that those who engage with Prison Professors understand the expectations, the methodology, and the importance of disciplined follow-through. His work reinforces a central principle of the platform: preparation begins with action, and action begins with access to the right tools.

Impact Narrative

Roman’s impact on Prison Professors is reflected in the direct support and guidance he provides to people in prison who are actively working to develop their profiles.

For individuals who are striving to document their efforts, Roman serves as a steady point of connection. He helps participants understand how to engage with the platform, how to use the materials we provide, and how to continue developing their profiles over time. His guidance helps transform good intentions into sustained action.

Because of Roman’s involvement, thousands of people receive timely encouragement and practical direction at moments when motivation can easily fade. His work reinforces consistency, accountability, and follow-through—qualities that are essential for building credible records of preparation.

By supporting people at scale and maintaining continuity across the system, Roman helps ensure that Prison Professors is not simply a repository of information, but a functioning community where effort is recognized, guided, and sustained. His impact is measured in the number of people who persist in documenting their journey rather than giving up when the process becomes challenging.

Post-Release Service

Roman’s post-release service is invaluable. Despite being deported after completing his prison term and having to rebuild his life in another country, he has remained consistently engaged in the work of Prison Professors.

From abroad, Roman continues to support thousands of people who rely on our resources to prepare for success upon release. He provides guidance, encouragement, and continuity to individuals who are often navigating uncertainty and isolation. His willingness to remain present and helpful, despite the personal challenges he has faced, reflects a deep commitment to service.

Roman’s post-release contributions demonstrate that preparation and responsibility do not end with custody or change in geography. Through sustained engagement and quiet reliability, he continues to help others document their efforts, stay focused, and move forward with purpose.

His service reinforces an essential message of our platform: meaningful contribution is not limited by circumstance. It is defined by commitment, consistency, and a willingness to help others succeed.

Teaching Focus

Roman’s teaching focuses on helping people in prison understand the value of developing a Prison Professors profile and documenting their journey with consistency and purpose.

Drawing from his own lived experience, Roman shows how preparation becomes meaningful when it is recorded. He teaches that writing, reflection, and documentation are not academic exercises, but practical tools that open prospects for success upon release. By sharing what worked for him, Roman helps others see that documenting effort can change how families, advocates, and decision-makers perceive readiness and credibility.

Roman reinforces that a profile is more than a static record. It is a living document that reflects growth, accountability, and direction over time. Through his guidance, people learn how documenting their journey can create momentum, sustain motivation, and expand opportunities that would otherwise remain closed.

His teaching is quiet, consistent, and example-driven. By helping others understand the power of showing their work, Roman strengthens the core mission of Prison Professors: preparation that is visible, sustained, and grounded in real experience leads to better outcomes.
