Accountability Tracker
At Prison Professors, we believe in living the same principles we encourage others to follow: transparency, accountability, and measurable progress. That’s why we created our Accountability Sheet, a weekly update log that we publish openly under the “About” tab of our website. You can view it anytime at this link:

Inspiration: A Culture of Reporting
The idea came from a post I read by Elon Musk, back when he led the group known as the Department of Government Efficiency. He tasked every federal employee with writing a short summary of what they accomplished each week. I thought it was brilliant—and immediately saw how it could serve our own mission.
For our community, accountability is more than a checklist. It’s a practice that reinforces responsibility, discipline, and consistency. By tracking what we get done, we create a culture where progress is visible, measurable, and motivating.
Why It Matters in Criminal Justice Reform
Every day, I work with hopes of improving outcomes in the criminal justice system. In my view, reform will only happen when we create mechanisms that incentivize the pursuit of excellence.
If a person works hard, documents the journey, and shows growth, that person should understand that opportunities for higher levels of liberty await those who earn them. This principle has guided me since I began writing Earning Freedom: Conquering a 45-Year Prison Term.
Since completing my sentence in 2013, I’ve worked to expand this initiative. Today, we are:
- Visiting prisons across the United States to share this message directly.
- Investing in our online platform to help people memorialize their journeys.
- Building dashboards and leaderboards to track progress and encourage friendly competition in self-improvement.
A Transparent Record of Progress
The Accountability Sheet is our way of showing that we live the same values we promote. Each week, we document the work we complete—whether that’s building new educational resources, meeting with Bureau of Prisons leadership, publishing MasterClass lessons, or expanding our technology platform.
We encourage others to follow along with our journey. By doing so, you’ll see how we hold ourselves accountable in real time, while also modeling the same behavior we want to see from people inside prisons.
Follow Along
We invite you to check out our Accountability Sheet and watch our progress unfold week by week. Together, we can build a culture of transparency and preparation—one that helps people in prison, their families, and society as a whole.
