Recognize that success means different things to different people
Before we can work toward success, we must define it. Without a clear definition, we cannot create a plan to get there. Without a plan, we cannot measure our progress. Without measuring progress, we cannot make adjustments.
In prison, I defined success as becoming the best version of myself. That meant:
Your definition of success will be unique to you. It should reflect your values, your goals, and your vision for your future.
Our values determine how we define success. If we value family, success might mean rebuilding damaged relationships. If we value education, success might mean earning a degree. If we value service, success might mean helping others.
Take time to identify your core values. These values will guide your decisions and help you stay focused when challenges arise. Without clear values, it's easy to drift or to be influenced by people who don't share your commitment to change.
