Section III: Personal Development

Section III of our course offers stand-alone lessons on personal development. These lessons involve more writing and critical thinking. Participants should use critical thinking to memorialize their personal growth and preparations for success.

I Came, I Saw, I Conquered

Julius Caesar spoke the famous words "Veni, Vidi, Vici" after a swift military victory. The phrase captures the essence of decisive action guided by clear vision.

For those preparing for success after prison, we can reinterpret this phrase:

  • Veni (I came): I arrived at my present circumstance through my past choices
  • Vidi (I saw): I see clearly the future I want to create
  • Vici (I conquered): I will overcome obstacles through sustained effort

The Power of Vision

Vision is the ability to see what doesn't yet exist. It's the mental picture of your future that guides your present actions. Without vision, effort becomes random and unfocused.

Your vision should be:

  • Clear and specific
  • Aligned with your values
  • Challenging but achievable
  • Meaningful to you personally

Will: The Engine of Achievement

Will is the determination to persist despite obstacles. It's what keeps you moving when motivation fades. Will is developed through practice—each time you push through resistance, your will grows stronger.

Drive: Sustained Energy

Drive is the sustained energy that powers your journey. It comes from internal motivation, not external rewards. When your drive comes from within, you don't need others to push you—you push yourself.

Together, vision, will, and drive create an unstoppable force for personal transformation.
