More Courses
I want to share an update on our latest development efforts for the Prison Professors community. Under the Correctional Staff section of our platform, we’ve added a new self-directed course. We kept the name simple: Prison Presentation.
Like everything we offer at Prison Professors, this course is free.
As part of our advocacy work, I travel to federal prisons across the country. The purpose of those visits is to engage with executive staff and to advocate for systems that reward preparation, responsibility, and merit. We believe that the harder a person works to prepare, the more incentives should open to help them earn higher levels of liberty.
During each visit, I first meet with the executive leadership of the institution. After that, I make a series of presentations to people in the population. Each presentation lasts approximately two and a half hours.
Not everyone can attend those sessions.
I wanted to change that.
To make the material accessible to everyone, we rented a professional filming studio and recorded the presentation–basically, the same presentation I make when I visit prisons. We then broke it down into a structured, self-directed course so anyone could revisit the content at their own pace.
The course is organized into five lessons:
- Investing in Yourself
- Learning from Others
- Becoming the CEO of Your Life
- Documenting Your Journey
- Sustaining Progress and Overcoming Obstacles
In addition, we filmed a separate video designed specifically for Admissions and Orientation, so people can begin thinking strategically from the earliest stages of their journey.
Over time, we plan to produce this content as a workbook and an audiobook as well. For now, the full course is live on our website and available to the community. We encourage BOP staff members to offer it to people in their facilities. It’s available through our the hub page we created for BOP staff members:
Later this week, we hope to add a second course: the full Preparing for Success After Prison program.
Investing in scalable resources like these strengthens our advocacy. These tools allow us to show—not just tell—how structured preparation supports positive adjustment and personal growth. They also support the broader reforms we continue to advocate for, including:
- expanded work release programs,
- greater access to community confinement,
- and incentives that reward sustained effort and accountability.
We design all of our work to benefit people at every stage of the federal criminal justice system. Whether someone is just beginning their journey or preparing for release, these resources are meant to help them think clearly, plan responsibly, and document their effort.
We’re grateful to everyone who supports this mission. If you haven’t already, I hope you’ll become an active member of our community and use these tools to begin—or continue—building your pathway forward.
