Character Reference Campaign

The Character Reference Campaign course teaches individuals preparing for sentencing how to plan, launch, and deliver a thoughtful character reference campaign that helps the court see them as more than the offense conduct. By combining authentic letters of support with documented evidence of personal growth, participants present a credible, complete picture of accountability, rehabilitation, and future potential.

This course explains why character evidence matters under federal sentencing law, how judges evaluate letters of support, and why organization and timing are critical. Participants learn how to guide supporters to write effective letters, avoid common mistakes, and coordinate submissions through counsel as part of a professional sentencing package.

We designed the Character Reference Campaign course to strengthen self-directed mitigation and personal responsibility. Participants learn to manage the campaign themselves, document progress through their Prison Professors profile, and present evidence of growth that reinforces their narrative and sentencing memorandum.
