Student Points

To motivate members of our community, we created a system to “gamify” personal progress. Every time someone contributes to their profile on Prison Professors Talent, they earn points that reflect their commitment to growth. Submissions of 300 words or less earn one point. Submissions over 300 words earn two. This system encourages friendly competition—and gives participants a clear reason to keep writing, reflecting, and building a record that can support their reentry and self-advocacy efforts.

Measuring Progress

Reflecting Preparation

The Student Points system offers a transparent way to track who’s putting in the work. Every profile entry—whether a journal, biography, book report, or release plan—adds points to that person’s total. Our public leaderboard highlights those who are actively documenting their journey, showing the effort they’re making to grow and prepare. This visibility motivates others, creates a culture of personal accountability, and helps external stakeholders see the value of merit-based reform. Behind every point is a story of progress—and a step closer to earning freedom through effort.
